ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

WHAT IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Root canal treatment is a treatment method used to repair and save infected or decayed teeth. If tooth decay is not treated in a timely manner, the decay progresses deeper and causes inflammation of the nerves in the tooth. During root canal treatment, the pulp, which is the soft tissue in the root canal, and the dental nerve are removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned, and finally the opened space is filled.

WHAT ARE THE METHODS USED IN ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Local anesthesia is used to numb the area near the tooth. In some cases, anesthesia may not be needed because the dental nerve dies. However, many dentists numb the area for patient relief.

During treatment, a layer of rubber is placed around the tooth to keep that area dry and saliva-free.

The dentist then drills an access hole into the root canal. Through this hole, harmful bacteria, decayed nerve tissue, and pulp are removed from the tooth. Cleaning is performed using root canal files.

Files of increasing diameter are used by placing them in this hole, respectively, and working along the tooth to scrape and brush the walls of the root canals.

Water or sodium hypochlorite is regularly used to clean the micro-residues from here. After the inner part of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned, the opened hole is closed.

IN WHICH SITUATIONS CAN YOU HAVE ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Root canal treatment is usually applied to teeth with cavities or deep fractures. However, in some cases that develop due to trauma, root canal treatment can be applied to the teeth.

RECOVERY PROCESS AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Although root canal treatment is known as a painful treatment method, it is not a procedure that causes more pain and suffering than a normal filling procedure. The pain, soreness, and tenderness felt are caused by already existing inflammation and infection.

During the first few days following the completion of root canal treatment, there may be tenderness in the tissue in the area, especially if there is a cleared infection. In this case, a painkiller is given and you can return to normal life within the same day.

The simplest way to prevent inflammation and infection of the nerve and pulp of a tooth is to pay attention to oral hygiene.

If the teeth have cold-hot sensitivity,
If the person has toothache while eating and after eating,
If there is a color change in the teeth in case of the death of the nerves,
If there is swelling on the face when there is an abscess,
It means you need treatment.

After the root canal treatment is completed, there may be sensitivity in the tooth in the first week and ten days.
