TEETH WHITENING (BLEACHING)

TEETH WHITENING (BLEACHING)

WHAT IS TEETH WHITENING (BLEACHING)?

Reasons such as heavy consumption of tea, coffee, nicotine, excessive fluoridated water, and antibiotic use cause yellowing and stains on the teeth. Teeth whitening is performed without any prosthetic intervention. When you come to the clinic, after a detailed examination, you will be guided about home or office whitening.

WHAT ARE THE TECHNIQUES USED IN TEETH WHITENING? OFFICE(POWER)BLEACHING

In office type whitening, the procedure is applied by your dentist within 45-60 minutes. The basis of the procedure is to activate the whitening gel applied on the teeth with a special light and to release oxygen. The released oxygen provides a lightening in the colour of enamel and dentin. During the procedure, rubber dams or gum protectors are used to cover the gingiva. Usually, the problem is solved in a single session. Rarely, a 2nd or 3rd appointment is needed.

RECOVERY PROCESS

In dental esthetics, the recovery period varies according to the procedure. However, in an average of 10-14 days, full recovery is observed, and your smile becomes esthetic. Today, the treatment does not take long, as there are technological developments that enable these procedures to be performed in a short time.

No research has been done on this subject, and manufacturers do not recommend this procedure to be performed on pregnant and lactating mothers.

Results are different and vary from person to person. Some teeth whiten in a day or two, while others may take a month or two. Most people's teeth whiten in 2-3 weeks on average.

After the procedure, the whiteness and brightness generally remain constant for six months to two years.

All whitening agents work on the natural tooth structure. In other words, porcelain veneer crowns and bridges do not whiten. All this may need to change to match the color of your newly whitened tooth.

Teeth whitening is more appropriate after your orthodontic (chorda) treatment is finished. If your bridge prosthesis is in the posterior region, there is no problem. But in the anterior region, an anesthetic appearance occurs because your porcelain will remain darker after your teeth have whitened.
